Join us as an assistant

In a world that rewards success and winning, L'Arche communities are places where people can take time to explore who they are, not just what they can do. They are places of welcome where people are transformed by the experience of community, relationship, disability and difference.

'Quite simply, being part of L'Arche is being loved for who you are.'
Archana, L'Arche London Assistant

Whatever your stage of life, whatever your background and experience, L'Arche has something to offer, and so do you.

People choose to join L'Arche as a support assistant for people with learning disabilities (we say 'assistants') for a variety of reasons. Some are mature individuals wanting to give their lives new meaning. Some come to L'Arche to learn or develop new skills and attitudes to people with learning disabilities. Others may be professionals seeking a new context and deeper meaning within which to practice their chosen career.

'Living in L'Arche is like holding a mirror up to yourself and seeing the very best and sometimes the very worst of yourself reflected back.'
Amy, L'Arche Manchester Assistant

There are two support roles in a L’Arche community; either as a non-residential assistant or as a residential assistant. We are currently inviting applications for both roles at L'Arche Manchester.  We are looking for people to join the existing teams who support young women with various learning disabilities, helping them to participate in the L’Arche community and their local neighbourhoods.

You will be involved in providing intimate personal care, household tasks and recreational activities and celebrations.

The role includes team and lone working. You need to be able to practice and show how you hear, value and respect people, whatever their skills and support needs.

We are an ecumenical Christian community that welcome people of all faiths and none. If you are hoping to develop your spiritual life there will be opportunities through regular reflection, prayer and retreats. Whoever you are, in return for the gifts you'll bring, you will discover a very simple and honest joy in the relationships you build with other people, both with and without learning disabilities.

L'Arche is unique, with faith and inclusive community values at our heart. We are a high quality care and support provider, regulated by the Care Quality Commission in England & Wales and the Care Inspectorate in Scotland. Excellence in care and a commitment to living in community are essential.

Full/Part time (minimum 3 days per week), with opportunity to increase to full time plus regular sleepovers.

Salary £10 per hour, £19,500 per annum full-time

Or, live-in as part of the community, with board and accommodation provided and a year one stipend wage of £70 per week, increasing in subsequent years.

Closing date Noon, 4th April 2022

Interviews: (subject to availability) 7th / 8th April 2022

Applicants should complete a full CV, outlining why you feel you meet the person specification for this role then send to: [email protected]

OR    If you would like to hear more before applying, contact:

  • Graham, (Assistants’ Co-ordinator) m: 07990 017080
  • Julie, (Administrator) t: 0161 445 5710

The post is subject to DBS and employment checks.

Please Note: because we support vulnerable people, regular Covid 19 testing is standard for both employees and the people we support. We are a pro-vaccine employer, and encourage our employees to have the Covid 19 vaccination
